Mayor Kendrys Vasquez submitted a home rule petition to the Lawrence City Council seeking their support to increase penalties for illegal nightclubs in the city. The Lawrence Police Department and Inspectional Services Department have identified a number of illegal nightclubs and casinos and Mayor Vasquez wishes to ensure that those operating illegally will receive a significant fine of up to $10,000 for each occasion. The Lawrence City Council will have the opportunity to review the document presented in its Ordinance Committee Meeting before it is taken up for a full vote and be sent to the State Legislature for approval.
