The Lawrence Police Street Narcotics Enforcement Unit received information from area residents regarding possible drug activity along the Broadway corridor near the Methuen line. As a result of those tips, the Unit sets up surveillance in that area.
Shortly after the surveillance began, Detectives observed a male driver operating a vehicle with New Hampshire plates driving in the area without a legitimate purpose. They followed the vehicle into South Lawrence to the South Broadway and Inman Street area, where Detectives observed the same male on foot in the parking lot of the Inman Street apartment complex, meeting up with another individual. During that interaction, Detectives observed what they believed to be a drug transaction. After he returned to his vehicle, Detectives executed a motor vehicle stop on the vehicle. During that stop, they found narcotics on the male driver and in his vehicle. The male, age 31, was arrested and charged with several drug charges including trafficking.
As Detectives were conducting this motor vehicle stop, other Detectives from the Street Narcotics Enforcement Unit and the Lawrence Police Patrol Division as well as K9 units from the Essex County Sheriff’s Department were engaged in a foot pursuit and subsequent search for the second individual involved in the drug transaction. That second individual was located hiding in his nearby apartment. He was taken into custody and subsequently a search warrant was executed on the apartment. As a result of the search warrant, both narcotics and cash were seized. The male, age 32 of Lawrence, was arrested and charged with resisting arrest and drug trafficking.
