LAWRENCE

On Wednesday October 17th, the Department’s Street Crimes Unit, a combined unit of the Gang Unit and Street Narcotics Unit, conducted a prostitution sting. This is part of the Department’s ongoing effort to aggressively combat all quality of life issues in the city. During the operation two female police officers posed as prostitutes, and a male detective posed as a “John”, which is a term commonly used to describe individuals that are seeking out prostitutes to engage in sexual conduct for a fee. The operation was conducted throughout the day into the evening hours. Thirty-Two individuals were arrested during the operation: 18 males for Solicitation, 6 females charged with Sexual Conduct for a Fee, and 8 individuals were arrested on outstanding arrest warrants, three of which were for prostitution. There have been 66 arrests for prostitution this year
