TWO ARRESTED FOLLOWING LAWRENCE RALLY

best with Chief

LAWRENCE

Members of the Lawrence Police took part in this afternoon’s peaceful rally at Lawrence City Hall and the North Common. The crowd at the event was believed to be between 250 and 300 individuals. At the conclusion of today’s event, the vast majority of the crowd dispersed peacefully. A small group of participants gathered along barriers on Lowell Street near Amesbury Street adjacent to the Lawrence Police Station. Chief Roy Vasque met with the group and had a peaceful discussion with them. As the evening progressed, that group dispersed and later reassembled at the opposite end of Lowell Street at the intersection of Hampshire St. The group grew to approximately 60 people in number. The group continued to remain peaceful and continued to have peaceful discussions with members of the Lawrence Police Department. At approximately 8:30 p.m., an individual climbed over the barrier and began approaching the police line throwing projectiles at the Officers, at which time Officers advanced and took him into custody. As Officers were taking that individual into custody, a second individual began throwing projectiles at Police, and was also taken into custody.

Paul Coelho, age 41 of Lawrence, was charged with Trespassing and Disorderly Conduct.

Eleri Dume-Morillo, age 25 of Lawrence, was charged with 2 Counts of Assault and Battery with a Dangerous Weapon, Resisting Arrest, and Disorderly Conduct.

Chief Roy Vasque and the Members of the Lawrence Police Department are grateful to the vast majority of individuals from Lawrence and elsewhere who came to the City and peacefully had their voices heard at both Friday evening’s and today’s events.
